"Power of Despair" (
Overview[]
With a final score of 5 - 4, Team White, formed by Isagi, Nagi, and Baro has just won their match against Team Red, formed by Kunigami, Chigiri, and Reo.
Summary[]
As Isagi moves to give Baro a high-five to celebrate their victory, Baro violently grabs Isagi by his jersey, picking him off his feet and asks Isagi if he is a loser. Isagi apologizes, call Baro an incredible guy. Nagi surprises Baro by jumping on his back, bringing the 3 of them to the ground.
Nagi tells Baro that he was impressed by Baro's chop dribbling, and Baro explains that he just figured out how to do it. Baro describes how he previously conceptualized the field as belonging to him, and for the first time in his life, the two of them, Nagi and Isagi, stole the hero role away from him. Baro realized that the only way for him to survive was to control the field as a villain.
Nagi suggests that the only reason Baro was able to feel that is because their opponents were crazy strong. Baro vows that he will not lose to Isagi again. Nagi remarks that Baro's statement was the first time he called Isagi by his name. He asks Baro to call him 'Nagi' instead of 'Painman', but Baro continues to call him a pain. Isagi fist-bumps Nagi as Baro walks away.
At Blue Lock Central Center, Anri calls Baro's skills incredible, suggesting that he could be at the forefront of domestic soccer with such skills. As Ego slurps on instant yakisoba, he explains that defeat is inevitable in competition and the crucial thing is what can be learned from defeat. He explains further that mediocre people don't properly etch that despair into their souls and instead try to explain it away. Ego calls the tendency for people to be afraid to acknowledge their mistakes to be "Dream Doping". Ego states that he is not interested in people who delude themselves by chasing the ghosts of their dreams -- "dreams are meaningless unless you live to make them come true".
Ego considers the most important aspect of defeat is having the strength to thoroughly feel one's weakness and feel despair. He states that humans who fight even harder in the face of despair hold the power to make their dreams reality.
Returning to the field where Reo, Chigiri, and Kunigami are frustrated by their defeat, they reflect on things they could have done differently. Reo wonders what he is fighting for.
As Nagi, Baro, and Isagi consider who to pick to join their team, Isagi contemplates what they will need to defeat Rin and take back Bachira.
