"Environment" ( (かん) (きょう) Kankyō?) is the fourth chapter of the 18th volume and the 153rd chapter overall of the Blue Lock manga series, written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura.

Overview[]

Upon the resumption of activities, Isagi learns that the former Japan U-20 players have been invited by Jinpachi Ego to participate in the Blue Lock Project with them. Ego then introduces Phase Two of the project and lectures everyone about Europe's big five leagues, after which all players are required to choose a league, or an "environment", they want to play for.

Summary[]

Isagi and the other participants are back at the facility. Upon entering the main hall, they notice the presence of the Japan U-20 regulars, who have been assimilated into the pool of contestants after their loss against Team Blue Lock. Aiku explains that he and his teammates are no longer U-20 players but were invited by Jinpachi Ego himself to participate in the Blue Lock Project.

In the corner of the room, Isagi sees Rin alone. He tries to talk to him but is rudely dismissed. Ego suddenly appears on the big screen and introduces the second phase's agenda. After the former Japan U-20 team's loss against Blue Lock two weeks ago, Ego now has the ability to decide the new members of the team in preparation for the U-20 World Cup, which is set to occur in a hundred days. He then explains the importance of evolving in the Blue Lock environment and reveals that, in Phase Two, all contenders will be cast in new environments brought by Europe's big five leagues.

Ego introduces each league one by one: England specializes on speed and physical battles; Spain specializes on technique and creativity; Italy specializes on slyness and tactics; France is an avenue to success for young players; and Germany is a league specializing in logic and rationality, which Noel Noa plays for. Ego adds that the performance of each participant in the new environment they wish to be put in will act as the final selection for the U-20 team that will later participate in the U-20 World Cup. He advises all contestants to demonstrate their uniqueness and calls the final selection a rite of passage to becoming a professional.

Afterward, all players are given 90 minutes to choose an environment, or a league, that they wish to be a part of. Isagi stares at his cellphone as the timer counts down.
