"Final Match-up" (FINAL MATCH UP?) is the sixth chapter of the 17th volume and the 146th chapter overall of the Blue Lock manga series.
Summary[]
With one minute of extra time given, this match's final moments are coming to an end, and everybody is on the edge of their streets. It is announced that Sae Itoshi has gained possession of the ball, and Jinpachi Ego looks curious to see what will happen. When Ryusei Shido sees that Sae has possession of the ball, he makes a last-ditch effort and sprints towards the goal on the opposite field, effectively starting the counterattack and putting Blue Lock in a panic. Jyubei Aryu, Reo Mikage, and Yo Hiori look surprised and annoyed at the situation, while Jingo Raichi, Aoshi Tokimitsu, Nijiro Nanase, and Gurimu Igarashi panic on the bench, yelling for their teammates to stop the counter and defend no matter what. Yoichi Isagi tries to stop Sae but is immediately dribbled past. Shoei Baro runs to cover Sae but is slipped up and dribbled past. Seishiro Nagi tries the same thing but falls short of touching the ball, and has it flicked over his head. Tabito Karasu tries to calm the team down and gain time while they prepare a defense. He screams it's all over if the enemy scores now and needs to focus on the Japan U-20 players who are free. Everybody runs to track back, but as they do, Isagi sees something in all that chaos. Rin Itoshi is running to meet Sae and stop him, and as he arrives to stop his brother, Rin keeps his super-focused Flow State mind of destroying his enemies.
Sae is a bit surprised Rin is still trying so hard. He states that the fact that Rin but couldn't score just now proves that he has reached his limits. Sae condescendingly informs him that had he just walked away from football, he wouldn't have had to come to the realization that he stinks and is not good enough; its Rin's own fault for entering into a place like Blue Lock, and he should now understand that he could never be the world's best. Rin is ignoring Sae and only thinking about destroying him. He states that he won't fall for Sae's harsh words anymore and that Sae needs to stop trying to manipulate him with words. Rin thinks of Sae, Isagi, and Shido, who all have a special relationship with Rin and how they interfere in his life; how they always get in his way as brother's, partners, and rivals. Rin admits that he absolutely hates being "Sae Itoshi's little brother." He is himself and nothing else. He needs to trust in his anger and give in to his destructive urges so he may be his true self, Rin Itoshi, "the Egotist Destroyer." Rin charges at Sae, and Sae is still confused about how Rin can still make that face and still try to beat him despite the odds. The final matchup begins.
