"World Standard" (世界 (ワールド) 標準 (スタンダード) Wārudo Sutandādo?) is the second chapter of the 17th volume and the 142nd chapter overall of the Blue Lock manga series.

Summary[]

As Shuto Sendo kicks the ball out of the goal line, Meguru Bachira comments that the U-20 ace isn't too bad, and he guesses that today is not his day as he looks on angrily. Yoichi Isagi and Seishiro Nagi look surprised as Oliver Aiku takes the initiative and recovers the loose ball with an air chest trap. Aiku tells fallen-over Sendo to get up and asks if this spectacular save is the only thing the clumsy ace can do. Sendo tells his jerk captain to shut up, and he picks himself up, calling himself the ace of the Japan U-20. Kenyu Yukimiya is surprised the goal didn't go in, and Tabito Karasu tells the Blue Lock Eleven to get back as a counter is coming. Sendo continues saying that he is not handing over his spot on the U-20 to a bunch of rookies from Blue Lock and that he will change Japanese soccer. He doesn't care about glamorous models anymore; he is aiming to become the world's best, the world standard. He is now going to marry a Hollywood actress. The U-20 defenders react in shock as Sendo's declaration sounds through their ears. They say he is finally looking at the world but calling him an idiot all the same. Ryusei Shido is ecstatic as Sendo finally shows his ego, and Aiku tells his team to go forward. He notes that the Japan U-20 shouldn't let this fever slip away as he kicks the ball to Sae Itoshi. The midfielders and forwards prepare to counter, and Aiku continues thinking that the heat coming off of Blue Lock is reaching everyone on the team. A single striker who only followed his own will caused the midfield to awaken, triggered the defense to evolve, and guided the goalies to a new level. This is the battle he has been dreaming of; this game will change Japanese soccer forever, and the Japan U-20 will be the ones to change it.

Yukimiya and Karasu double-mark Sae, and they cautiously guard him, trying not to move unnecessarily. They prepare to block his shooting course and press him off the ball. Sae sees Rin Itoshi guarding Shido. He calls them all eyesores and lobs the ball over his two defenders. The direction of the ball surprises Karasu and Yukimiya, but Sae comments that he is impartial to all proper strikers, and he gives chances to whomever is in the most critical position as the ball flies towards Cho and Kitsunezato. They prepare to break through Yo Hiori and Jyubei Aryu, and when they receive the ball, they perform a one-two pass between each other that takes advantage of the height differences between all four players. They seamlessly break through, and Cho tells Kitsunezato to shoot the ball. As he strikes the ball, Reo Mikage comes out of nowhere and head blocks the ball perfectly. As a second ball is called, Sendo comes in from the midfield prepared to take advantage of the loose ball faster than anybody. He prepares to take his shot, calling himself the ace of the Japan U-20, but at the last second, Nagi and Shoei Baro come in for a combined wall that stops Sendo's shot but leaves them stunned as they accidentally head-butt each other. The ball falls into the hands of Sae, which shocks Sendo, and as Gin Gagamaru prepares himself, Isagi comes in from behind Sae to block his shot. Sae sees him and performs a no-look pass behind him to a player nobody suspected, Oliver Aiku, who made his way up from the bottom of his half to surprise the defense. Sae tells Aiku he has perfect timing as he runs up to meet the ball entirely focused, and he sarcastically apologizes, saying that he used to be a striker. Aiku's complete surprise takes Blue Lock, and as he prepares to end the game with a powerful shot, Rin performs a sliding block that messes up the trajectory of the ball and sends it flying over the goal post. Aiku and Isagi are surprised, and Aiku sarcastically thanks the Blue Lock captain for joining them. Rin replies back sarcastically, apologizing, saying he is the little brother of the self-centered Sae Itoshi. Hirotoshi Buratsuta is absolutely angry, and Anri Teieri looks on in awe. Only five minutes remain in this match.
