"Dramatic Exchange" (交代劇 (こうたいげき) Kōtai Geki?) is the 128th chapter of the Blue Lock manga series.

Overview[]

Ryusei Shido's first goal awes the entire stadium, and Isagi recalls the last play and realizes how amazing Shido and Sae really are together. Even though Chigiri predicted the play, Sae adjusted accordingly and performed a super pass that was perfect regardless of Chigiri's defense. Isagi realizes that Sae and Shido play by using reflex, and it is this reflex that allows for them to link up and perform superhuman plays.

Chigiri and Niko are visibly injured and are subbed out for Reo and Hiori. Blue Lock changes some positions, and the second half resumes.

As Ryusei Shido scores his first goal, Hirotoshi Buratsuta stares in awe, and Yasumori Hoichi clenches his fist in approval at the amazing play. Oliver Aiku comments on the perfect pairing of Shido and Sae Itoshi, and one of the commentators exclaims surprise at Shido's incredible goal while the crowd goes wild with cheers of excitement. The entire stadium, the commentators, the spectators, and the players are all taken aback as Shido makes his debut in Japan. Shido is absolutely giddy with joy from scoring in front of such an immense crowd; it's as if the cheers are getting him high. Sae reminds him that the game is only tied now and he should calm down before he climaxes too early. Meguru Bachira states that play was unfair, and Ikki Niko frustratingly states Sae and Shido just won't stop; they formed a chemical reaction.

Yoichi Isagi thinks in his head that that free kick just now was way too brutal. He thinks Shido probably imagined the place he "most wanted" to shoot and just made a beeline for it. Hyoma Chigiri predicted the incoming play and dashed in the same direction to intercept, but Sae sensed all that and adjusted accordingly to Shido's desired position and Chigiri's speed right before he kicked the ball so the speed and angle of his pass would be perfect. All these conditions and Sae's split second decision to make a pass that was barely out of Chigiri's defense range but still in Shido's shooting range was what made the play so amazing. Just then, Isagi has an epiphany, and he realizes that maybe he has been striving to create ideal plays using split second decision-making like Sae—a play born from reflex. Isagi also realizes Shido's shot was the same as well. While running at top speed, Shido decided in an instant that the best response to Sae's pass was to leap over Chigiri for a jumping volley. Not only that, but Shido was able to shoot with his speciality weapon, the Drive Shot; he couldn't have pulled off such a feat if his brain and body weren't moving by reflex. Sae's reflex combined with Shido's reflex is what created such a superhuman play. While Blue Lock was unable to understand and handle Shido properly, Sae is able to fully comprehend Shido's ability and is able to link up with him to devastating effect. Isagi notes that Sae and Shido are only getting started, and if they don't stop them, then Blue Lock will lose in no time. Shido compliments Sae on his pass and asks for his number, and Sae, surprised by the statement, says maybe he will if Shido can score a hat trick.

Chigiri gets substituted due to his injury

Just then, Chigiri flops onto the field, grabbing onto his left knee. Isagi sees him and asks him if he is okay, and Chigiri, pain-faced, says it's just a leg cramp. Niko stands there and feels his ankle stinging, and he plops down onto the field as well. Jinpachi Ego notices his fallen players and announces its high time to change the lineup. The auxiliary players look stunned, and Anri Teieri asks who it will be, as Ego responds by saying the team's balance has been broken and most will be restored. Isagi asks Chigiri how his knee is, and Chigiri apologizes, saying the second half has just begun. Chigiri is surprised at himself for being out of stamina, but he realizes that he wasted so much time avoiding football; his abilities aren't where they should be. He thinks himself pathetic because if he hadn't given up earlier before Blue Lock, then he wouldn't be on the ground right now. Just then Isagi sees the sign for Chigiri to get subbed out, and Niko is also being subbed out for Reo Mikage and Yo Hiori. Reo congratulates Niko as he runs out onto the field, and Hiori compliments Chigiri as he switches as with him. As Chigiri makes it up on the stands, Ego asks Chigiri what's wrong with his face because it looks like he has a problem with the substitution. Chigiri's face is full of disappointment and tears, and as he sits down, he angrily responds that he has no problems with Ego's decisions. Ego says if he is going to cry about it, he should have built up his stamina to last the entire match, but he reminds Chigiri that his frustration is currently where he is at right now.

The commentators note that Blue Lock is not only making two substitutions but they are changing positions as well, but it comes as no surprise that Shido and Sae's super goal has changed the pace of the match. 35 minutes left in the second half, and the commentators are dying to see the results of this change. Reo is replacing Niko as left centerback, Eita Otoya is replacing Chigiri as right sideback, and Hiori is replacing Otoya as right winger. Reo calls out to Seishiro Nagi and tells him he better score because he knows he can do better than this. Nagi says he knows, and Reo responds by saying if they don't win, it's over for them, and he said it's way too soon for them to stop, and Nagi looks in agreement, saying he knows. Isagi and Rin prepare themselves as Blue Lock resumes the game.
