Quartet (カルテット Karutetto?) is the 114th chapter of the Blue Lock manga series.

Overview[]

The sportscaster and commentator note on Aiku's incredible head clearing, and Isagi notes and remarks on his incredible abilities and skills. Isagi realizes unless they can beat Aiku, they won't be able to win this match. The game resumes with a throw in and Blue Lock still in possession, with the Blue Lock Eleven changing up their offensive tactics by moving the ball up the sides. Unfortunately, the Japan U-20 fullbacks are able to neutralize and counter the abilities of the offensive lineup, and eventually, Aiku steals the ball. Aiku, commenting on Blue Lock's loss of momentum, sends the ball to Sae.

Summary[]

Sportscaster Atsuto Tereasa comments on Oliver Aiku's amazing midair interception and then asks what commentator Harutaro Natsuki thinks. Harutaro responds by saying Aiku is the captain of the team known as the Diamond Generation for a reason. They are known for their strong defense and quick counters. The stadium is chanting Aiku's name as Yoichi Isagi thinks about Aiku's quick counter. Isagi realizes that Aiku's defensive move took into account the source of the pass and the positions of all the players on the field. With that information, he moved in an instant to where he could do the most damage, towards Isagi. Aiku used "reflex" to counter, and that's something Isagi wants to use to score his own goals. On top of Aiku's superior defense reflex, Isagi notices his extreme physicality, expert spatial awareness, and strong body. Isagi notes he has done his research on the Diamond Generation, but playing against them is a whole other thing. Compared to the defenders he has faced in Blue Lock, their kind of defense is on a whole other level. Oliver Aiku, captain of the Japan U-20, is the real deal, and unless they crush Aiku, they won't be able to win this match.

The game resumes with a throw in and Blue Lock in possession; Hyoma Chigiri throws the ball to Isagi, who thinks that running the ball down the center will be difficult with Aiku guarding it, so Blue Lock will go with their second offensive strategy, running the ball down the sides. Eita Otoya appears on the right and begins his dash down the field when Miroku Darai meets him, who says Otoya cannot escape him. Otoya tries to maneuver past Darai, but he cannot slip by. Darai explains that there are players who stand in front of the ball and those who work in the shadows, seeking to take advantage of the off-the-ball movements. Darai informs Otoya that they are of the same kind, and Otoya realizes Darai is anticipating and countering all of his movements. Darai's interference angers Otoya, and Isagi notes Otoya's problem. Isagi is surprised the enemy team fullback can neutralize Otoya's weapon, but he cannot figure out how. Isagi, realizing he can't past it there, decides to past to the other side of the field, to the left where Kenyu Yukimiya lies. Yukimiya picks up the ball and prepares for a dash when Teppei Neru intercepts him. They greet each other, then Yukimiya performs a La Boba on Neru to get past him, but surprisingly, Neru keeps up with Yukimiya. Neru comments on how much faster Yukimiya is in person compared to the videos he has seen, and Yukimiya realizes that Neru is a speed-type defender who can keep up with him. Isagi is once again surprised that one of the fullbacks is neutralizing his teammate's weapon, and Yukimiya tries to speed past Neru again. Neru intercepts the course and kicks the ball away from Yukimiya.

Isagi calls a loose ball when Seishiro Nagi runs to pick it up. Nagi thinks he can trap and turn with the ball when Kazuma Nio comes insanely fast behind him, putting his entire core on Nagi, disabling him from making a move to build a proper play. Isagi realizes Nio is a power-type defender, and Nagi questions if Nio is some type of guard dog. Nio confirms that he is and says, "Here comes his master," when Aiku sweeps under Nagi's leg, effectively taking the ball away. Aiku comments on Nio's good work and dashes away with the ball. Isagi notes that the Japan U-20 just performed one perfect defense after another before stealing possession and notes that this is the "Iron Wall Quartet." Aiku comments that Blue Lock has stopped moving as he sends a pass down the center straight into the hands of Sae Itoshi. Aiku tells the boy genius it is time to show his stuff.
