"Trance" (夢中 (トリップ) Torippu?, lit. "Trip") is the 104th chapter of the Blue Lock manga series.

Overview[]

The first match of the Third Selection has just concluded with Team A winning over Team B with a score of 5 - 4.

Summary[]

Nanase clobbers Isagi to the ground in celebration, impressed with his game-winning direct shot. Shido also praises Isagi, telling him that he felt Isagi's cells giving off sparks and that he thinks he is going to like Isagi's explosion. Being that Isagi is unable to describe how he managed to pull off the shot, Rin calls Isagi's shot a fluke since it was stolen from him. Rin tells Isagi, "you really piss me off".

Shido calls Rin third-rate for being unable to praise other people's brilliance. As the two continue to name-call, they agree to a physical fight now that they won't get a card since the game is over. Throwing punches, they continue to name-call as Otoya watches the fight with delight, saying "I love stuff like this". Karasu calls them children, voicing denial that they lost to them. As Isagi and Hiori pull Shido back, and Nanase and Chigiri pull Rin back, the overhead speaker announces that further violence will result in disqualification.

Later, Nanase and Isagi are watching footage of their game in the monitor room, and Isagi tries to explain how he was able to make his last goal. Hiori encourages Isagi to continue to analyze his plays so that he can better improve his ability to think and play reflexively. Hiori compares the reflexes needed to play soccer similar to reflexes needed to play a video game, such as tetris, well when the difficulty starts to increase. Hiori explains that this is how amazing gamers are able to improve their game. He tells Isagi that the reason he is able to play so well is because he has accumulated so much experience. Isagi describes that the sensation of acting reflexively as a trance.

Isagi thanks Hiori for the advice, saying that he couldn't have pulled off his goal had it not been for Hiori and Nanase. Nanase admits the Isagi is the only person in the game he was able to keep up with. Hiori states that his performance in the game was no different than how he typically plays, though he says that seeing Isagi's amazing goal was exciting. Hiori appreciates that Isagi's goal allowed him and Nanase to make cases for themselves to stay in Blue Lock. Nanase gives Isagi and Hiori exuberant high-fives simultaneously.

Isagi continues to reflect on his "trance" sensation, seeing his ability to reproduce it a key to climbing higher. Isagi, Hiori, and Nanase continue to watch the screens as the next match between Team A and Team C begins. As the two teams line up on the field, Reo tells Nagi to keep his eyes on him.
